Community Wraparound Received Trauma-Resilient Organization Accreditation!
Community, Connection, and a Celebration!
The Community Wraparound TREC Accreditation celebration was at the beautiful Southeastern Live Well Center in San Diego on April 7, 2025. This well-earned organizational accreditation follows the Trauma-Resilient Professional Certification of individual team members last year.
This wasn’t your average community event, it brought together Learn4Life educators, staff, and students, professors, youth, families, and law enforcement agencies to honor a major milestone of Community Wraparound achieving their TREC Accreditation, a big step in strengthening healing-centered services and support for local youth and families. Community Wraparound works at the ground level to prevent gang involvement and support positive youth development by building strong, local partnerships. Gang-affiliated youth are given real opportunities to change their path and thrive through viable alternatives.
As the first social service provider to become TREC Accredited, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the Case Managers and Community Mentors who support justice-impacted youth and their families.
Community Wraparound's Board of Directors will be the first Board to become Trauma-Resilient Professionals!
"Our TREC team is tremendously excited for Community Wraparound's TREC Accreditation! The staff have shared their transformation from their trauma-resilient training certification and teamwork with Learn4Life schools in San Diego County. The culture of these two organizations is providing a healing-centered environment supporting students and families."

SPOTLIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
Struggles with mental health lead teen to find support in a trauma-resiliency program.
Alexandria T.’s home life was rocky. She struggled with mental health challenges, including ADHD, anxiety, and depression. During high school, she received little support and found it hard to concentrate on her studies. Instead of dropping out, she transferred to a school that provided personalized instruction and a trauma-resilient approach, finally receiving the help she needed.
According to a recent survey by the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), teens want schools to play a bigger role in their mental health since they trust the information provided by them.
More than two-thirds of students agree that schools should teach what mental health is, as well as where and how students can seek treatment. However, only 40 percent of teens say their school has specific programs or resources to support mental health. In Alexandria’s school, Learn4Life, the presence of TREC professional certified teachers, tutors, counselors, and social workers means the students are provided with the tools to build resilience in the face of life’s ups and downs and develop healthy, trusted relationships. TREC-accredited schools practice restorative justice rather than punishing students who may be acting out as a trauma response. Students who engage with the trauma-resiliency programs and social-emotional learning curriculum earn 17 percent more credits per learning period compared to non-TREC-engaged students. They also tend to graduate at a six percent higher rate.
At school, trauma can manifest in things like truancy,
difficulty concentrating, isolation, and risky
behavior like substance abuse.
Alexandria graduated and is now a student at San Diego State University, working toward a bachelor’s degree in child development. She plans to apply to their master’s program in social work or counseling.
“Learn4Life taught me that even when you think the whole world is against you, there are always people out there who care about you. They want to see you succeed, but you have to be open to receive the support.”
