Reflecting on Growth, Resilience, and Hope: The First Year of TREC.

Dana Brown Speaking

Dana Brown, TREC Pioneer

Dear TREC Community,

What an extraordinary and exhilarating year 2024 has been for TREC! As we reflect on our journey, we are filled with immense pride and gratitude for all that we've accomplished together. From the launch of our 1.25.24  program to the milestone of December 5, 2024, we've seen remarkable progress: 3,300 TREC courses completed, 470 Trauma-Resilient Professionals Certified, and 22 Trauma-Resilient Parents empowered with the knowledge and tools they need to transform their lives.

This year also marked a deeply significant achievement as we completed the TREC Accreditation with twelve Learn4Life schools. Schools like Desert Sands Charter High School and Antelope Valley Learning Academy  and Diego Valley East Charter School have all earned their TREC Organizational Accreditation, joining others like San Diego Workforce Innovation High in Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, Linda Vista, and National City, as well as Alta Vista Innovation High School and Vista Norte Public Charter School. Together, we are creating spaces where resilience and healing can flourish.

This year has been one of remarkable growth and heart-centered expansion for TREC. Our ecosystem within schools, partner organizations, and communities is thriving, thanks to the dedication and passion of everyone involved.

Our partnerships with the community have blossomed in ways we never imagined. One unforgettable moment was our involvement in Excuse me, your Honor: Let’s talk about Community Justice!  on April 21, 2024. Standing alongside influential leaders like San Diego County’s District Attorney, Summer Stephan, North Carolina’s District Attorney, Ben David and Chief Circuit Judge J. Corpening, and the dedicated team at Community Wraparound, we knew we were part of something profound. Rand Courtney, film producer, La Lucha: Getting Schooled in America was in attendance.

The incredible work being done by Community Wraparound—whose staff are now certified as Trauma-Resilient Professionals and are pursuing Organizational Accreditation—is a testament to the power of collaboration. We’re overjoyed to announce that their Board of Directors will be the first in the nation to become Trauma-Resilient Professionals, setting a new standard of leadership and care.

Another milestone that fills our hearts with joy is our collaboration with South Carolina’s Department of Social Services. Through the passionate efforts of Robyn and Tim Farrell, founders of SharpenMinds, we had the privilege of connecting with Anna Skipper, Training Director, Foster, Adoptive Parent, and Kinship Caregiver. Our Trauma-Resilient Parent Certification has now been integrated into South Carolina’s learning management system, ensuring that every foster parent and guardian in the state receives this transformative, mandated training each year. It’s a monumental step in empowering South Carolina’s foster families. To learn more, read about this inspiring partnership here, Empowering South Carolina’s Foster Families: New Partnership with TREC and SC DSS.

As we look ahead, we are thrilled to begin planning our in-person TREC Wellness Retreat. After years of gathering virtually due to the pandemic, we can’t wait to bring together our incredible community in person in 2025 for a transformative experience of healing and growth.

This year has been one of remarkable growth and heart-centered expansion for TREC. Our ecosystem within schools, partner organizations, and communities is thriving thanks to the dedication and passion of everyone involved. From our students and families to our staff members and community partners, each of you has contributed to making this year unforgettable.

A heartfelt congratulations to the entire TREC team for your unwavering commitment, leadership, and the deep care you bring to this work. Together, we are changing lives, one trauma-resilient step at a time. Thank you for everything you do to nurture and support our shared mission and vision. We couldn’t be more grateful to have you alongside us on this transformative journey.

Meeting the needs of more families! Coming in 2025: Curso de crianza resiliente al trauma

(Trauma Resilient Parenting course in Español)

The TREC Parenting Course, launched in September, provides parents and caregivers with essential tools to support their children’s emotional development while prioritizing their own well-being. This program is invaluable for those raising babies, children, or teens, guiding them through all stages of growth with strategies for resilience and self-care.

Recognizing the diversity of families we serve, we will be releasing a Spanish version of this course at no cost in the new year. By offering the course in Spanish, we can better address the unique needs of parents and caregivers, who often face additional barriers such as language access, cultural differences, and limited, tailored resources. This expansion ensures that more families can benefit from the course’s life-changing content!

WHAT OUR LEARNERS HAVE TO SAY:

Participants' feedback shows strong results in our first year of courses.

The power of feedback helps us to continue to improve our offerings. We asked participants in our TREC 101, 201 and 301 courses to share their experiences on how the coursework met their needs. This valuable input helps us identify areas for growth, fine-tune our programs, and continue to adapt to the evolving needs of those we serve. Take a look at the results!
